Player Spotlight
We are delighted to put the spotlight on our young percussionist Annabel Halcrow.
Annabel has been a familiar face with the band for a long time as her Mum (Alison), Dad (Ed), Sister (Amey) and Brother in Law (Alex) all play in the band. So following on the family tradition Annabel started as a young learner with the band in 2019, initially on a cornet. Despite the disruption caused by Covid Annabel maintained her interest in banding and returned to our learners class as soon as she was able to.
For the last year or so Annabel has been exploring her interest in percussion and drum kit playing. She has been having lessons with a drum tutor and practising regularly on her home kit. All this hard work paid off this year as she took up the position of percussionist with the band.
Now aged 13 Annabel recently made her debut contest appearance in spectacular fashion performing with the band at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain at Cheltenham in September. This was swiftly followed by playing with the band at the entertainment contest in Bolsover where we achieved 2nd place. This weekend she also made her debut appearance with the all female brass band Boobs & Brass.
We are really proud of Annabel and her progress as a player and we are really excited to see what she achieves next!
