You may have recently spied some new faces among our ranks over the festive season, and we are delighted to confirm some exciting new signings as we move into the New Year and our preparation for the upcoming regional contest.
PRINCIPAL EUPHONIUM
We are delighted to welcome experienced brass musician Nadine Hobbs to the team as our new Principal Euphonium.
Nadine started playing cornet at the age of 6 at Daventry Brass before moving onto the baritone aged 9. Between the age of 16 and 21 she was a County Youth band player where she gained a solid grounding in lower brass playing.
At the age of 18 Nadine joined the Rigid Containers Band (now known as GUS Band) where she remained for a period of four years. She has since played with both Kibworth Brass and Daventry Brass before agreeing to accept this most recent challenge of the position of Principal Euphonium with TTB.
Nadine commented that “I’m excited about the challenge of playing a different instrument / part and also looking forward to playing in a band where I’m back with some old brass band friends including old friend Nathan Waterman as MD.”
PRINCIPAL CORNET
We are excited to announce the appointment of Kirsty Woodhouse as our Principal Cornet.
Kirsty began her musical career at the age of 7, learning to play within the Salvation Army in Coventry. She quickly progressed, becoming a key member of the YP Band and later the Senior Band.
A significant moment in her playing years was her successful audition at Kneller Hall, applying to join the Army as a musician. Although she chose not to pursue this path, the experience remains a highlight in her journey as a brass player.
In 2019, Kirsty joined the City of Coventry Brass Band, initially playing flugelhorn. Her dedication and musicianship earned her promotion to the position of Principal Cornet.
She now brings her leadership, skill, and experience to Thrapston Town Band as our new Principal Cornet.
Kirsty commented, “I’m excited to join such a successful and welcoming band. Working hard under the excellent leadership of Nathan Waterman is a fantastic opportunity, and I look forward to what we can achieve together.”
Speaking about these exciting new appointments Musical Director Nathan Waterman says “I’m so excited to have both Kirsty and Nadine join the band. Nadine and I go way back and I know what an asset she will be. Kirsty is not only a class player but a great motivator. It’s a huge endorsement to TTB that players of this calibre want to join us on our journey! I can’t wait to get started on our Area prep.”
